The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is pleased to present the pavilion for South Summit in Madrid, an event that this year is extending its reach to the public by taking place in Plaza de España until the 7th of June 2024. Historically held at La Nave in Madrid, the South Summit has now chosen to also engage directly with the city, making innovation more accessible and integrating it into the urban landscape.

Designed and constructed by a team from IAAC, led by its Director Daniel Ibañez and Founder Vicente Guallart, the pavilion reflects the commitment to cutting-edge architectural solutions and sustainable practices.

Key features of the pavilion include:

Ephemeral Structure: Designed for multiple assemblies and disassemblies, the pavilion showcases the flexibility and adaptability essential for contemporary innovations.
Parametric Design: The structure is shaped by parametric design principles, ensuring it meets the specific needs of the program, site, and orientation, and harmonizes with its environment.
Seven Large Flowers: These elements create shaded areas below, known as “Islands of Innovation,” where diverse innovative experiences are presented. The design is inspired by natural patterns, providing significant shade and enhancing the pavilion’s aesthetic appeal.
Sustainable Construction: Constructed primarily from timber, the pavilion emphasizes sustainability and efforts to reduce carbon footprints. It adheres to the principles of design for disassembly and circularity, facilitating material reuse and recycling.
