IAAC will have once again the honour to participate in the Llum BCN Light Festival 2018 in Barcelona. Join us at Poblenou District, from the 16h to the 18th of February, and participate in our interactive light installation ‘PlayBall!’

To celebrate the festivities of Santa Eulàlia, Festival Llum Barcelona will be illuminating the city, using light to transform its spaces. The first research studio of the Master in Advanced Interaction (MAI) immediately involved the students into a real project with the Barcelona’s City Council and the Institute for Culture of Barcelona to be installed during the Festival Llum BCN 2018, next 16th, 17th and 18th of February.

‘PlayBall!’, the Master’s in Advanced Interaction students proposal, is an interactive installation that calls viewers to action by using light to create interactions between the viewer and installation, and between viewers themselves. By hitting one ball to another, light is passed on, allowing light to take on the playful nature of balls. A new typology of ball now acts as an icon of potential energy and potential play, while masking any preconceived symbolism of light. This project is supported by Barcelona’s Creative Communication Laboratory tl3.

Llum Festival 2018 is part of Santa Eulàlia festivities programme in Barcelona, which has more than a hundred fun activities of all kinds, but mostly for children and families. The activities include street parades with giants and other fantasy figures, human towers, story-telling, puppets, workshops, talks, concerts and many other events are on the programme for the festival. Other traditional Catalan festival events include folklore bastoners (stick dancers), sardanas (catalan dancing) and correfoc (fire-runs).
