On March 25th and 26th, the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) hosted the kick-off event of the European project GreenIn Cities. Financed by the Horizon Europe program of the European Commission and led by the IAAC, the project aims to regenerate, reuse, and reactivate urban areas through the implementation of nature-based solutions. GreenIn Cities will develop, test, and validate collaborative methodologies and tools for urban planning to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The three-day kick-off event started on the first day with presentations, visits, and workshops in San Adrián de Besós, then continued the next day at Valldaura Labs with a campus tour and other moments of work and exchange and ended at IAAC with conclusive remarks.

With a funding of 12 million euros and 31 international partners, GreenIn Cities will include pioneering pilot project implementations in eleven European cities, including Barcelona and San Adrián de Besós. IAAC, MCRIT, the Metropolitan Strategic Plan of Barcelona, and the Besós Consortium will develop the local pilot project in the area of the mouth of the Besós River. This pilot project will involve regenerating the area, promoting the use of public space, increasing biodiversity, and contributing to the decarbonization of urban spaces through solutions co-designed with citizens.
