The WINGS Workshop visited Valldaura Labs last Saturday to conclude two days of fast paced analysis, interpretation and construction. Around one hundred architecture and design students attended the workshop and began the task of generating a series of architectural interventions onsite. WINGS itself stands for Workshop in Intensive Networking Games and Strategies and brought together the IAAC Master in Advanced Architecture students with visiting students from the CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) from the USA and students from the Polytechnic School of Genoa (Italy).
The theme of the workshop this year was to explore methods of Materialising Data through Landscape. The workshop was site specific in nature and after extracting and comparing varied data sets the groups set about digging, compressing earth, arranging and hanging the elements they found at Valldaura. Enactments of the data also included sound and sensory installations and many students found themselves truly embedded in their work and returned home valiantly covered in Mud.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of the students and staff alike Valldaura was converted into a hive of data related activities and we look forward to more of the same at Valldaura next year. For more information about WINGS workshops please use this link.
