The Master in Advanced Architecture – MAA revolutionizes current architectural approaches and methods, training professionals to become changemakers in the arena of architecture and the built environment towards sustainable and responsive solutions. To do so the Advanced Architecture Agenda with a “Learning by Doing” and “Design by Research” methodology allowing to critically think out of the box and materialize novel architectural solutions for the current and future challenges related to the environment, society and to the linear and homogeneous approach in design and building.
The multidisciplinary and multi scalar approach, working from the territorial to the material scale, and combining new technologies, biology, computational design, digital and robotic fabrication, among others, the Master in Advanced Architecture presents an innovative academic structure, where students can create their own customized study agenda according to their interests and their future career aspirations.
Competition Details
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia announces every year a Scholarship Competition giving our master’s applicants the chance to win partial scholarships covering 50%, 30%, 20% of the tuition fee of each IAAC’s academic programme.
Project Brief
“Architecture for Reassembly” – Design a computational or digitally fabricated architectural solution that explores the concept of circularity through design for disassembly within the material, building, and/or urban scale. Applicants are free to choose the scale and the location of their proposal, and the incorporation of material lifecycles and/or spatial reconfiguration is appreciated.
In order to participate, candidates interested in the MAA Scholarship Competition must:
- Hold a first-level academic diploma or Bachelor degree, or about to graduate within the academic year 2021/22;
- Have a full proficient level in English;
- Complete the IAAC scholarship application form below in full*.
- Submit your project in pdf format, A3 format, 3 pages max (max 8MB) by sending an email to the Applications Department ([email protected]);
*If you have already applied to an IAAC Master program, please send an email to the Applications Department ([email protected]) to communicate that you are participating in the scholarship competition as well. In this email, please attach your project proposal (as indicated on the scholarship page ”Project Brief”)

The Selection Committee
The Jury will be integrated by master programme directors, coordinators, faculty and special guests and professionals coming from the different topics to be addressed by the 6 competitions.
Winners Announcement
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia will release the name of the winners on its official website in March 2022.
