The ‘Responsive Cities – Disrupting though circular design” proceedings, is a collection of research projects that promote alternative design solutions to the current resources-consuming and contaminating construction models. The projects compiled in the publication investigate how novel technologies in the field of design can enhance and strengthen the implementation of circular economy principles in the built environment.

Organized by the Advanced Architecture Group (AAG) of IAAC in Barcelona, the Responsive Cities is a bi-annual international symposium on the future of cities. The 2019 edition was organized focuses on the topic of “Disrupting through Circular Design” within the framework of the Creative Food Cycles (CFC) project, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and developed by the AAG of IAAC together with the Leibniz University of Hannover and the University of Genoa.

With the aim of disrupting linear patterns and secure circularity in cities,  “Disrupting through Circular Design” explores new circular processes of materialising, managing, and constructing the built environment through the combination of design with technologies such as synthetic biology, big data analytics, predictive modelling, engineered materials, or digital manufacturing, among others.
