Each Educational Programme invites the student to submit a project which gives an answer to some of the current global challenges: Climate Crisis, Data Management etc. The information on the competition’s proposal (topic, requirements and format) for each programme is detailed below.
Master in Advanced Architecture – MAA01
Project brief:
Advanced Climate Crisis Architecture – Design a computational or digitally fabricated architectural solution that questions the role of architecture within the current climate crisis. Applicants are free to choose the scale and the location of their proposal. – Submit a pdf file, A3 format, 3 pages max (max 8MB) containing: a short description in English of the project and the strategy/rationale behind the proposal.
Master in City & Technology – MaCT01
Project brief:
Data Urbanism – To develop a strategy for urban planning and design based on the overlapping of different types of data, for a city of their choice. Submit a pdf file, A3 format, 3 pages max (max 8MB) containing: a short description in English of the project and the strategy/rationale behind the proposal.
Master in Robotics & Advanced Construction – MRAC
Project brief:
How new technology can shape the construction industry? – Submit a single A4 sheet answering the question or analyzing a specific technological tool that you may think can revolutionize the building sector.
Master in Design for Emergent Futures – MDEF
Project brief:
2050 – Tales from the Future – Submit a science fiction story which tells the tale of decolonisation and de-objectification of design in 500 words as well as an illustration of this future of anything. Applicants are free to select a scenario related to food, work, mobility, humanity, health, manufacturing, entertainment, tourism… or anything.
Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities – MAEBB
Project brief:
Ecological wood construction – Propose a structure or design (from architecture to furniture) related to ecological principles using wood. Submit a pdf file, A3 format, 3 pages max (max 8MB) containing: a short description in English of the project and the strategy/rationale behind the proposal.
3D Printing Architecture Postgraduate Programme – OTF
Project brief:
What is your vision for a 3d printed architecture? – Submit a single A4 sheet answering the question.
To apply, each candidate should complete the Scholarship Application Form and upload the projects in there.
Who can participate?
In order to participate, candidates interested in the Scholarship Competition must:
- Hold a first-level academic diploma or Bachelor degree, or about to graduate within the academic year 2019/20.
- Have a full proficient level in English.
- Having accomplished the full application to a IAAC’s Master*
*Please note that in order for your scholarship application to be considered as valid, you must apply first through IAAC’s regular application process and follow the instructions described in this link. If you already are an applicant, then send an email to the Applications Coordinator ([email protected]) to communicate that you are participating in the scholarship competition as well.
Competition Details
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia announces every year a Scholarship Competition giving our master’s applicants the chance to win any of the 3 partial scholarships covering 50%, 30%, 20% of the tuition fee of each IAAC’s academic programme (18 scholarships in total).

The Selection Committee
The Jury will be integrated by master programme Directors, faculty and special guests and professionals coming from the different topics to be addressed by the 6 competitions.
Winners Announcement
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia will release the name of the winners on its official website in February 2020.
