IAAC’s Open Thesis Fabrication Program is delighted to announce that it will participate in the Biennal de Ceràmica in La Bisbal, from the 16 to the 18th of Octobre with a large scale clay 3d printed installation that will be fired in situ as a performance during the festival, as a pioneer research into the field of 3d printed ceramics.

In the world renowned context of ceramic crafts of Northern Catalonia, IAAC joins forces with the ceramists of La Bisbal to develop a unique solution for 3d printing with Clay: design and build a structure that will act as its own oven in order to be fired into a ceramic architectural element.

3d printing has the capacity to design hollow walls, in which cavities can serve multiple purposes. What if they were used in order to channel fluxes of heat throughout the inside of a wall in order to fire it, convert it into ceramic and strongly enhance its structural property? This is the challenge that leads our team to work with computational fluid dynamic and empirical physical testing in order to design a geometry based on performance strategy.

Join us at the Biennal de Ceràmica to discover this project and meet the OTF team as well as other great artists, craftsmen and ceramic experts.
