IAAC COMMUNICATION MANAGER

We are currently searching for a Communication Manager to join our Communication and Marketing Team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
- Lead on the production, delivery and evaluation of the Institute’s communication strategies and platforms across all areas of activity and deliver this in line with the overall strategy of the Institute.
- Monitor and evaluate communications activity to understand the effectiveness of particular actions and campaigns.
- Responsible for drafting press releases and proactively identifying topical issues relevant to the Institute.
- Advising on communication strategies across academic and professional services to ensure a consistent, comprehensive and cohesive approach to communications and marketing is understood, adopted and implemented.
Digital
- Lead on increasing the visibility and effectiveness of the Institute’s website, particularly in relation to recruiting students as well as showcasing the Institute’s events series and research activities.
- Lead on and supervise the work of the Communications Assistant in the production of new and engaging content on the departmental website as well as the maintenance of up-to-date news and general content across appropriate web and social media platforms.
- Lead on the development of social media content for the Institute; monitoring and developing new communication channels and soliciting content for these channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc.)
Project and Events Management
- Lead on the organisation of large-scale events such as public lectures, book launches and receptions. Contribute to the curation of planned events with the Head of Communications and Marketing Manager.
- Measure and evaluate the impact of events among key audiences through analytical and qualitative methods.
- Participate in launch events and Open Days, including weekend and evening working.
Brand and Visual Identity
- Contribute towards the management of the brand and visual identity of the department across the institution by monitoring the usage of templates and adherence to guidelines so that the brand and visual identity is communicated consistently by all staff.
Liaising and Networking
- Be the main point of contact for IAAC’s Media Relations and Publications Services.
- Attend events on behalf of the Institute’s Communications Team.
- Coaching, Training and Line Managing members of staff including setting individual targets, monitoring performance and giving feedback/appraisals.
- Keep informed of developments in the field of marketing, communications and public relations as well as the management and governance across the Institute’s network of stakeholder organisations and audiences.
- Create tools, templates and guidance for staff with regard to communications and marketing across the Institute.
Qualifications, experience and knowledge
- Undergraduate qualification, ideally in a communications or marketing discipline. Professional marketing or communications qualification or equivalent experience.
- Up-to-date knowledge of social media channels and developments.
- Excellent working knowledge of Content Management Systems.
- Knowledge of contemporary strategic issues and challenges facing both higher education and the research specialism of the department.
- A track record in managing and delivering top quality strategic communications and campaigns.
- Experience of producing a variety of communication materials (from concept to delivery) within tight deadlines.
- Experience of producing effective print and online communications e.g. press releases, reports, brochures and proposals.
- Experience of developing Alumni relations.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Computer literacy, including understanding or and competency in word processing (e.g. Microsoft Word), desktop publishing and basic image manipulation (e.g. InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop).
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and project management skills, including the ability to work effectively on numerous projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion, and the ability to liaise with staff and external individuals at all levels and work within small teams.
- Excellent networking and negotiating skills.
- Native/Fluent level of English, advanced level of Spanish, Catalan is a plus.
CRITERIA
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with faultless attention to detail and an ability to write and present to a variety of audiences.
- Extensive experience of writing, editing and sub-editing, including the expression of complex or technical material in lay terminology.
- A strong understanding of websites, social media and multimedia, and how they can be used for marketing.
- The ability to innovate and to implement new communications strategies and novel technologies.
- Knowledge of Higher Education Sector.
- Self-motivating and able to work independently.
- Adaptable and resilient with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
