IAAC is pleased to invite you to the opening of the 2015 Bi-City Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture of Shenzhen: Re-Living The City.
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in collaboration with the Harbin Institute Of Technology Shenzhen (HIT) and the Zurich University Of The Arts (ZHdK), has been curating and designing the Spanish-Swiss Pavilion, whose multimedia installations HyperCity and Fragments of China, Spain and Switzerland will be unveiled next Friday.
Aim of the two installations is to present the framework of the Shenzhen International Graduate School of Design, the new Institute which is to offer places for circa 1,200 masters and doctorate students with an emphasis on the three subject areas:Architecture, Infrastructure & Urbanism; Products, Spaces & Urban Cultures and Identity, Communication & Media.
Responsive Buildings, Active Public Space, Urban and user applications, Eco and productive neighborhoods, DIY, Internet of Things or Internet of Energy are becoming the new terms of architectural and urban processes. HyperCity investigates these new and emerging realities through two video installations. One dedicated to a collection of urban, architectural and technological visions for the future HyperCity: a hyper connected, social and productive city. The other features an excursus through the thoughts, practice and predictions of a series of specialists engaged in shaping the future of our cities, architecture and technology.
Fragments of China, Spain and Switzerland is a virtual stage composed of living imagery from places all over China, Spain and Switzerland, which highlights the idea of a multinational design education for young professionals. Exploring new perspectives in the space of the interactive installation, the visitor affects the way the images are presented: busy movements will cause distortions, while slow movements will reveal the true images.
THE FUTURE EDUCATION FORUM
What will define the Local and the Global needs of an Education for the next generation of Architects and Designers? How can the Society, the Industries and the Creative Potential of the Society participate in the definition of a New Design School? How can rigid, Top Down Educational Models bring about Bottom Up Models, Entrepreneurial Discovery and Citizen Creativity empowerment?
The Future Design & Architecture Education Forum revolves around the setup of an International Graduate School of Design strongly connected to a HyperCity. The goal is to raise, discuss and promote questions and topics that will influence the conception of an inventive education, located in the Pearl River Delta area.
At the same time it is crucial to rethink the educational models around the city sciences, bringing architects, designers, urbanists, decision makers and citizens around new formats of discussion and action followed by new collaborative tools for urban transformations.
