ABOUT
The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is a cutting edge education and research centre dedicated to the development of architecture capable of meeting the worldwide challenges regarding the construction of habitability in the early 21st century. As a multi-cultural platform for the exchange of knowledge on multiple scales (city, building, manufacturing) and in different areas of expertise (ecology, energy, digital manufacturing, new technologies) IAAC introduces IAAC bits, a collective container of knowledge and material stimulating, promoting and developing research in the diverse areas of advanced architecture through a multi-disciplinary approach on both a local and global scale.
The IAAC bits seek to collect, investigate and distribute material contributing to the better understanding of the IAAC research lines, keywords and suggestive templates:
THEORY FOR ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE;
INTELLIGENT CITIES AND TERRITORIES;
ADVANCED ARCHITECTURE;
DIGITAL DESIGN AND FABRICATION;
INTERACTIVE SOCIETIES AND TECHNOLOGIES;
SELF-SUFFICIENT LANDS.
The call is aimed at contemporary spatial practitioners, in particular those belonging to the IAAC Community, inviting them to reflect and discuss these themes, through the proposal of relevant published or un-published material. This material will contribute to the generation, consolidation and diffusion of IAAC knowledge container, hence incrementing and consolidating the IAAC Community.
A IAAC bits call will be released every 2 months collecting proposals on all of the above themes, these will then be selected and elaborated by the IAAC advisory board into an on-line journal with ISSN, available here.
Please note: The material selected may not necessarily appear in the next edition of IAAC bits online, but may be selected in view of a future edition with a particular focus.
Material from the IAAC bits online will be selected for a yearly paper back publication of the IAAC bits with ISBN.

Advanced Culture, informational society, sharing knowledge, multi-scalar research
INTELLIGENT CITIES AND TERRITORIES:
Multi-urban strategies, smart cities, re-citying, emergent territories, intelligent contexts, radical regions, empathic city
ADVANCED ARCHITECTURE:
Self-sufficient buildings, mixed habitats, complex structures and programs, metabolic design
DIGITAL DESIGN AND FABRICATION:
Fab Labs, dynamical tectonics, computational tools, distributed innovation, cloud data, fabrication ecologies
INTERACTIVE SOCIETIES AND TECHNOLOGIES:
Reactive spaces and interfaces, interactive environments, new technologies, active citizens, relational space, mobile world
SELF-SUFFICIENT LANDS:
Advanced permaculture, environmental exchange, strategic and operational landscapes, creative environments, energrid technology, eco-structures
PAPER GUIDELINES & SUBMISSION
The call is aimed at contemporary spatial practitioners, in particular those belonging to the IAAC Community, inviting them to reflect and discuss these themes, through the proposal of relevant published or un-published material. This material will contribute to the generation, consolidation and diffusion of IAAC knowledge, hence incrementing and consolidating the IAAC Community.
You may submit ONE proposal per call.
Those interested in presenting papers must upload published or un-published full papers on the IAAC docs web platform of 1000-2000 words in English.
Please include the following information at the head of the submission: full name, date of birth, affiliation (professional/academic), e-mail, title of dissertation, three key words, as well as the theme of interest.
Up to 3 images (300dpi) may be included in the text (NB: these images must have the author of the texts rights to be published).
