The Barcelona City Council has decided to honor IAAC Board of Trustees Vice President, Andreu Mas-Colell, with the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit, expressing gratitude for his efforts in placing the scientific community at the forefront.

Andreu Mas-Colell has been awarded with the Gold Medal for Scientific Merit with this motivation: “For his tireless dedication to positioning the city’s scientific community at the forefront of international excellence and for contributing, through various institutions and entities, to making Barcelona a city of scientific reference with excellence on both the national and international stages. This recognition is also extended for his lifelong commitment to ideas, science, talent, universities, innovation, and research.”

Mas-Colell, born in Barcelona in 1944, is an emeritus professor at UPF and the Barcelona GSE, serving as the President of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and vice-president of IAAC Board of Trustees. With a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, Mas-Colell has held professorial roles in Economics and Mathematics at the University of California (1972-80), served as a professor of Economics at Harvard University (1981-96), and chaired the Economics Department at UPF, also leading as the president of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics from 2006 to 2010. His extensive academic contributions include over 100 research papers spanning from abstract general equilibrium theory and financial market structure to pricing policies for public enterprises and strategic game theory.
