IAAC, as an institution committed to equality and progress, celebrates the International Women’s Day with all the Institute’s powerful, awe-inspiring and talented women.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day (8th March), “Think Equality, Build Smart, Innovate for Change” places innovation for women and girls at the centre of efforts to achieve gender equality. Achieving a world with gender equality requires social innovations that work for both women and men and leave no one behind. The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia believes that innovation can bring the race for gender equality to an end by 2030, as stated by UN Women.
At IAAC we want to commemorate the historical struggle of women who worked in the factories of the Poblenou neighbourhood of Barcelona, where our centre is located, and thus highlight the demand for equality and progress for women in all social, economic and labour areas. As an institution, we feel proud to be part of this demand and, especially, to do so in a city like Barcelona that is a pioneer in the fight for women’s rights with the first feminist strike called in 1918.
