How can urban renewal improve people’s lives?
All of us dream about cities that are more sustainable, high-tech, healthy and people-friendly, but the current state of our public and private spaces falls a long way short of meeting the needs of present and future generations. For this reason, in response to the question How can urban renewal improve people’s lives?, the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) and Obra Social “la Caixa” are organising a multidisciplinary discussion on the benefits of urban renewal for citizens’ everyday life on Monday, 17 December, at 6:30 pm at Palau Macaya.
The debate, which will be moderated by architect and urban planner Manel Vallribera, will also be joined by Vicente Guallart, director of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia; Zaida Muxí, director of Urban Planning for Santa Coloma de Gramenet; Mark Nieuwenhuijsen, director of the Urban Planning, Environment and Health Initiative at ISGlobal; and Isabel Granell, director of the Observatory for Urban Rehabilitation And Renewal for the counties of Girona province.
The consolidation of new technologies, the gender perspective when designing cities, and the impact of building on public health will be some of the issues on the table for discussion.
Pre-registration required.
