IAAC founder and Master’s in Advanced Ecological Buildings (MAEB) Director Vicente Guallart presents the new academic programme in China for city officials, architects and students in various cities of the Asian country. Specifically, on March 22nd he presented the programme in Shenzhen, within the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, which will run until March 2018. The conference was held at the Urban Planning Institute in Shenzhen and was attended by a large audience.

During this week, Guallart also presents the new MAEB academic course and other IAAC innovations at the Cervantes Institute in Beijing. In this event at the Spanish Cultural Institute, Chinese students, professionals and businessmen will be present in the conference to learn more about advanced innovations on architecture and urbanism in Spain. On Wednesday 24th, IAAC founder also inaugurates an exhibition on his studio Guallart Architects work in Barcelona and worldwide on the occasion of the agreement between his office and the Chinese architecture firm Arts Group, located in Suzhou. Arts Group is one of the most important offices in China, with more than 2000 employees, which develops and promotes projects in the country linked to the sustainable city and ecological and advanced architecture.

China: a country looking towards sustainable architecture

Vicente Guallart, also former chief architect of Barcelona between 2011-2015, is currently developing and assisting various architectural and urban planning projects in China such as the Master Plan for the Great Channel of China, the world’s longest artificial canal. An infrastructure that is more than 1000 years old and it is considered a world heritage site.

China is particularly interested in the ecological and technological challenges of its buildings, both in the field of urban regeneration and new construction. For this reason, several Chinese entities and institutions have shown special interest in the new IAAC’s Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings, which will be started next academic year 2018-2019 at the IAAC’s Valldaura campus.
