IAAC inaugurated the new collaborative robotic cell setup funded by ROSIN European project to develop the Educational Project “Teaching ROS for the construction industry”. This robotic setup will help IAAC further integrate ROS, the open source Robot Operating System, to its teaching activities, in particular within the Master in Robotics and Advanced Construction.
The new training center has been set up and equipped with a collaborative robotic arm, UR10e, as well as extra hardware to teach ROS for industrial robotics to MRAC students.
Software workflows are being developed to teach ROS to the students, these include custom made workflows to connect existing softwares in the AEC industry such as CAD softwares (Rhinoceros, Grasshopper3d) to ROS. This setup allows students to explore design to robotic production workflows as well as real-time and adaptive robotic fabrication workflows.
About IAAC Educational Project for ROSIN :
IAAC’s project aims at making ROS technology accessible for the construction industry by supporting emerging educational formats for applied robotics. In particular the project is providing a space setup, hardware components, custom software and teaching content to support the use of ROS in the Master in Robotics and Advanced Construction (MRAC) at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). Once refined, the results of the project will be released in open source licence to the community, in the form of an open source plugin compatible with the software used in the construction industry (such as Rhinoceros 3D).
Supported by ROSIN – ROS-Industrial Quality-Assured Robot Software Components.
