IAAC | Fab Lab Barcelona designed Leka Open Source Restaurant in Poblenou’s 22@ district in Barcelona by means of digital fabrication technology

The world-renowned architecture publication ArchDaily opened nominations for the Building of the Year 2018. This year’s selection includes some Building of the Year relevant architecture firms alongside a selection of disruptive and emerging practices. All of them capture architecture’s capacity to spark positive change in the environment.

Leka Restaurant, located in Barcelona’s Poblenou neighbourhood, is conceived as an open source platform where all the knowledge is shared to everyone and gives it a unique character. The project is organized by families: furniture, acoustic elements, interactive elements, etc.  The whole prototyping process required for the production of these non-standard systems has been possible with the aid of the digital production tools, in which the principles of design, structure or manufacturing process are continuously related. The project was developed by FabLab Barcelona architects and Master in Design for Emergent Future (MDEF) Faculty Miguel Guerrero and Anastasia Pistofidou.

We encourage you to vote for this cutting-edge project HERE! You have until the 31st January to nominate it! Many other interesting initiatives like this, combining new ways of design and digital fabrication technology, are waiting for you in our new MDEF programme.
