IAAC Awards the First Bosch Aymerich International Scholarship

As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, IAAC has awarded the first grants of the Bosch Aymerich International Scholarship Programme to Amanda Luisa Koivisto Nevado and Álvaro Mieres de Santiago. The awards were presented by IAAC’s Director Daniel Ibañez and Elena Cabarrocas, Andres Escarpenter and Rafa Faus, representing Fundación Bosch Aymerich.

A First-of-Its-Kind Scholarship

Initiated by IAAC with the support of Fundación Bosch Aymerich, the programme connects Spanish graduates with MIT faculty to push the boundaries of architecture and the built environment. Each scholarship offers six months of fully funded research at MIT and six months of professional integration at IAAC in Barcelona, formalised through an employment contract.

This first edition received 85 complete applications. Both selected profiles stand out for their research proposals around the sustainable transformation of architecture and the relationship between territory, resources and productive systems.

Amanda and Álvaro will develop their research under the mentorship of Cristina Parreño and Roi Salgueiro, Spanish faculty at MIT, and supported at IAAC by Areti Markopoulou, Academic Director, and Daniel Ibáñez, Director of IAAC.

The Legacy of Josep María Bosch Aymerich

The programme carries the legacy of Dr. Josep María Bosch Aymerich – the first Spaniard to graduate from MIT, who studied alongside Aalto, Le Corbusier and Gropius and reflects a shared commitment to connect Spanish talent with the world’s most ambitious research ecosystems.
