To enter the IAAC scholarship competition, please submit your design proposal by February 25th, 2022. Winners will be announced on March 11th, 2022.
Apply to one of our masters programmes today.
Each Educational Programme invites the student to submit a project which gives an answer to some of the current global challenges: Climate Crisis, Data Management etc. The information on the competition’s proposal (topic, requirements and format) for each programme is detailed below.
Master in Advanced Architecture – MAA01
Project brief:
“Architecture for Reassembly” – Design a computational or digitally fabricated architectural solution that explores the concept of circularity through design for disassembly within the material, building, and/or urban scale. Applicants are free to choose the scale and the location of their proposal, and the incorporation of material lifecycles and/or spatial reconfiguration is appreciated.
Master in City & Technology – MaCT01
Project brief:
“Data Urbanism” – To develop a strategy for urban planning and design based on the overlapping of different types of data, for a city of their choice. The analysis and planning proposal must be based on a problematic that relates to the selected city’s relation to climate change.
Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities – MAEBB
Project brief:
“Ecological Wood Construction” – Create a design proposal at any scale (from architecture to furniture/object) related in some way to ecological principles, and using wood as the primary material. Submit a pdf file, A3 format, 3 pages max (max 8MB) containing: a short description in English of the project and the strategy/rationale behind the proposal.
Master in Design for Emergent Futures – MDEF
Project brief:
Cultivating Regenerative Futures – In the midst of a global pandemic, designers are called to take a step forward and intervene in the systems they operate both at the micro and macro scales. MDEF aims to align designers with their purpose, but also with new principles of regeneration of the natural systems and human relations that make possible the inhabitation of life on planet earth.
Master in Robotics & Advanced Construction – MRAC
Project brief:
Design, Architecture and Robots: call for innovation – Propose a computational or digitally fabricated solution to envision how advanced robotic manufacturing systems can challenge traditional architectural processes and bring innovation for the design and construction industry. Applicants can choose the preferred location and scale in the submission.
Master in Mass Timber Design – MMTD
Project brief:
“Mass Timber Building” – Create a design proposal for a structure at any scale (from a building to a pavilion) utilizing mass timber technologies (Engineered Wood Products such as CLT, GLT, DLT). Submit a pdf file, A3 format, 3 pages max (max 8MB) containing: a short description of the project (in English) and the strategy/rationale behind the proposal describing the choice of material (species, source, and choice of engineered wood product).
Master in Design for Distributed Innovation – MDDI
Project brief:
“A decade of Harmless Entities for the Global South” – The quantified impact of Novel Entities in our social foundations and ecological ceiling are catastrophic, and the next decade is crucial. Can we use digital technologies, distributed design and territorial intelligence to design harmless and regenerative novel entities? How the next decade of design interventions through technology looks like?
Master in Advanced Computation for Architecture & Design – MACAD
Project brief:
“Space Habitat” – Design an architectural proposal for habitat in space. The proposal must be self-sufficient and should consider energy consumption, local material sourcing, modularity and feasible fabrication techniques. Applicants are free to choose the number of inhabitants and the specific location of their proposal, as long as it’s not based on earth.
3D Printing Architecture Postgraduate Programme – 3DPA
Project brief:
What is your vision for a 3d printed architecture? – Submit a 2 page illustrated A4 document with a 400 word description and images.
Postgraduate – Fabricademy BCN
Project brief:
Productive Cities: New Materials – Your challenge is to design a project proposal (an object or an intervention), within the logic of ecodesign, biodesign, and circularity, that repurposes waste to make new materials from your neighborhood.
Postgraduate – Fab Academy
Project brief:
Productive Cities: Food & Energy – Your challenge is to design a project proposal (an object or an intervention), that produces food or energy using the principles of circular design and digital fabrication, in the neighborhood or city scale.
To apply, each candidate should complete the Scholarship Application Form and upload their proposals.
