MWC 2024

A pavilion for the Mobile World Congress 2024 showcasing the evolution of technology in Barcelona, Catalonia, and Spain, from Industry 1.0 to Industry 5.0.
The challenge was to create an innovative pavilion for the Mobile World Congress that effectively showcases the evolution of technology in Barcelona, Catalonia, and Spain, from Industry 1.0 to Industry 5.0, while providing various functional spaces for conferences and immersive experiences.
IAAC designed the Mobile World Capital Barcelona pavilion, titled “Remember the Future.” Inaugurated by the King of Spain, the project highlights the region’s technological evolution while emphasising sustainability and human-centric design.
1. Design and Construction
The pavilion was designed as a wooden structure with five roof sections, symbolising the transformation from the straightforward geometries of the first industrial revolution to the organic forms representative of a sustainable future.
Structure: The pavilion reaches a height of six metres and is manufactured from Kerto laminated wood by Tallfusta. Its unique design stands out amidst the typical fair panels, emphasising IAAC’s commitment to ecological architecture.
2. Functional Spaces
The pavilion includes a large conference space, an immersive exhibition area, a photocall, and a loft for VIPs. The immersive area, developed by LaviniaNext and OnionLab, features a striking three-dimensional representation illustrating five pivotal moments in technological development—textile manufacturing, urban growth, automotive innovation, media advancements, and artificial intelligence.
3. Future Plans
After the congress, the pavilion will be repurposed and relocated to a park in L’Hospitalet, demonstrating IAAC’s commitment to sustainable design practices and providing a lasting resource for the community.
Key outputs of the project include a 30-metre-long and 8-metre-wide wooden pavilion, an immersive space showcasing technological advancements, a multifunctional area for conferences and four interactive technological experiences, and a designated VIP loft area.
