Aaron Betsky

Architect & Art Critic (he/him)

Aaron Betsky was born in Missoula, Montana, and later moved to The Netherlands for his education. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts (1979) and a Master of Architecture (1983) from Yale University. His leadership roles in art and architecture include serving as the Director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam from 2001 to 2006, Curator of Architecture and Design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art from 1995 to 2001, and Artistic Director of the 11th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy, in 2008.

Aaron was Dean at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and President of the School of Architecture at Taliesin until 2020. He is also the Director of the School of Architecture and Design at Virginia Tech until 2024.

A prolific writer and editor, he has authored a dozen books and hundreds of articles. In addition to his writing, Aaron is a lecturer and visiting critic, teaching globally and engaging with a wide range of architectural and artistic communities.
