Zubaydah Jibrilu grew up in Nigeria and Cairo, where her interests in culturally relevant design practices first developed. She gained her Part 1 architectural qualifications at the University of Edinburgh, where her graduate project focused on designing for resilient communities in socially deprived neighbourhoods. She also completed an undergraduate dissertation that explored futuristic depictions of Nigeria through the speculative lens of Afrofuturism. Zubaydah is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture (MArch) at the University of Sheffield. Driven by the social and cultural responsibility of the design and creation of built environments, her main areas of interest are navigating the discourse surrounding design concepts and urban solutions within the West-African built environment. Her interests seek to explore what the future of West-African cities like those in Nigeria will look like from a material and social perspective.
