Study Robotics in Barcelona

At IAAC, robotics is explored as one of architecture’s most forward-looking practices. Students learn how robotic fabrication and material innovation can transform the way we design and build, from experimental prototypes to large-scale applications.

Barcelona itself becomes a living laboratory, where research and construction intersect with new ecological and technological approaches.

Why study Robotics at IAAC?

Join an international community shaping the future of construction and fabrication

The programmes — two paths into robotics in architecture

Robotics at IAAC is approached as both a field of experimentation and a tool for transformation. Students can follow two different academic paths that explore how automation and advanced technologies are redefining architecture – from experimental design studios to full-scale ecological construction.

Master in Advanced Architecture
Within the Master in Advanced Architecture, robotics is integrated into studios and research lines that focus on digital fabrication, automation, computational design and advanced manufacturing. Students develop experimental projects that use robotics as both a design tool and a construction method.

Master in Ecological Architecture & Advanced Construction
At IAAC’s Valldaura Campus, the Master in Ecological Architecture and Advanced Construction offers an immersive experience where students build 1:1 prototypes using robotic fabrication and timber construction techniques. Robotics here supports a regenerative approach to architecture, linking advanced tools with ecological materials.

Continuing into the Second Year

Both programmes, the Master in Advanced Architecture and the Master in Ecological Architecture and Advanced Construction, offer the option to continue into a second year, where students can focus their research in specialised thesis clusters. These research lines explore themes such as construction robotics, 3D printing architecture, advanced manufacturing and innovative materials. The second year provides the opportunity to turn experimental ideas into consolidated projects, bridging academic learning with professional practice.

Why IAAC & Barcelona

Barcelona provides a unique context for experimenting with robotics and architecture. From the 22@ innovation district to IAAC’s two campuses, students access facilities where robotics, computation and ecology intersect:

Pujades Campus

Home to Fab Lab Barcelona and advanced fabrication infrastructure for rapid prototyping, model-making and digital experimentation.

IAAC Barcelona
Valldaura Campus

A 140-hectare forest campus dedicated to ecological prototyping, construction and full-scale experimentation with bio-based materials.

The Institute

IAAC is an innovative centre dedicated to prototyping the future. We don’t see the future as a distant horizon awaiting us. We understand the present as a moment to influence what comes next. The future is our daily inspiration, our driving force, and our biggest commitment: our minds live in the cities, the technology and the problems of the future. We stand at the intersection of imagination and reality, where every prototype holds the potential to shape the next era of habitat. We are architects of change.
