The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is pleased to announce the Responsive Cities Symposium 2025. This year’s edition focuses on “Design Matter(s) for Decarbonization”, within the framework of the Circular Design (CiD) project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union and coordinated by IAAC’s Advanced Architecture Group.
The Symposium will take place in Barcelona from 25th-26th February 2025 and will explore the abundance design paradigm and materially-driven innovations for architecture and cities, through the innovative use of reclaimed materials, biomaterials, metabolic architecture, and digital technologies.
As part of the Symposium, IAAC and the Circular Design (CiD) Project are launching two calls:
- Call for Papers
- Call for Projects
The papers and projects should be aligned with the Symposium’s topics:
DESIGN & BUILD: design for disassembly | form follows availability | digital manufacturing for reuse | circular feedback
DECARBONIZE: zero & negative carbon materials | buildings & cities as carbon sinks | regeneration | sustainable land management
ADAPT TO CLIMATE & PERFORM: synthetic ecologies | living systems | building metabolism | design performance
DIGITIZE THE PHYSICAL: computing (living) matter | monitoring | digital twins | material passports
ETHICS & POLICIES: design ethics | inclusivity | decision making | democratize technologies
Call for Papers
If you are an educator, researcher or practitioner in this field, you are invited to submit original and high quality papers on the topics mentioned above.
