Artur Serra Hurtado

Anthropologist, Director I2CAT, Barcelona (he/him)

Artur Serra Hurtado is the Deputy Director of the i2cat Foundation, a research and innovation centre focused on the Internet. He holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Barcelona, specialising in technological cultures. From 1990 to 1993, he conducted an ethnographic project at Carnegie Mellon University on the culture of design related to computer technology. Upon returning to Spain, he created CANET, the first Internet research centre at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, later founding the i2cat project and the foundation.

He has developed several European projects that explore the convergence of the Internet with audiovisual culture. In 2006, he launched the Cultural Ring, the first experimental network for cultural sectors, connecting centres in Catalonia and Latin America. Since 1995, he has worked on designing and launching citizen networks in Spain and Europe (BCNet, Ravalnet), culminating in the First World Congress of Citizens Networks (Barcelona 2000). Currently, his research focuses on living labs and innovation structures open to citizens. He launched Citilab in 2007, the first European citizen lab, and is now part of the European Network of Living Labs, with extensive publications and international conference contributions.
