Mass Madera Award for young architects 2025
An award to recognize projects by architecture students and young architects
Mass Madera, the Spanish Network for the Promotion of Industrialized Solid Timber Construction, is launching an award to recognize projects by architecture students and young architects. The aim is to highlight new proposals related to timber as a material and low-emission architecture in Spain.
CATEGORIES
The awards will be presented in two categories:
FINAL DEGREE PROJECT: Architecture thesis projects from any Spanish university, submitted in the last three years (from the June 2022 call onwards), that make significant use of timber as a structural material.
NEW PROJECTS: A newly developed proposal focused on designing an extension to an existing building, where the structure is made from industrialized timber.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
FINAL DEGREE PROJECTS: A PDF document including relevant information to understand the final degree project.
NEW PROJECTS: Three A3-sized PDF panels of a project (use and scale to be decided by the entrant), based on the philosophy of the Optoppen project (www.optoppen.org), using a real location in one of the following cities participating in the citiES 2030 EuCinco project: Madrid, Valencia, Valladolid, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Zaragoza.
AWARDS
The awards have a total value of €55,650.
Each first prize in both categories includes:
- A 100% tuition scholarship for a Master’s program at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) for the 2025–26 academic year (the year when Barcelona is World Capital of Architecture).
- €2,000 cash prize for first place, €1,000 for second place, and €1,000 for third place, in each category.

DEADLINES
All documentation must be submitted by midnight on June 20, 2025, via email to [email protected].
The results will be announced on July 15, 2025.
The award ceremony and project presentations will take place at a public event before the end of 2025
