IAAC will participate in Manifesta 15, the European Nomadic Biennial, a renowned cultural event that moves between cities across Europe, focusing on contemporary art, architecture, and social change. The 15th edition will take place in the Barcelona metropolitan region from September 8 to November 24, 2024. This collaboration with Manifesta provides IAAC with a platform to present cutting-edge research to a global audience, emphasizing the role of advanced technology and self-sufficiency in addressing urban challenges through transversal, future-oriented solutions. As part of Manifesta’s Focus Weeks, IAAC will present MO.CA, a mobile camping unit designed and built by students from the Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings & Biocities (MAEBB) program.
Built during the 2022-23 academic year, MO.CA is constructed entirely from zero-kilometer laminated wood, sourced and processed at IAAC’s Valldaura Labs in Collserola Natural Park, the project exemplifies ecological innovation. The mobile unit provides space for two people, includes basic domestic amenities, and features a flexible central area that can be adapted to host events, concerts, serve as a library, or act as a meeting space.
MO.CA’s design aligns with the nomadic nature of Manifesta, allowing it to move between multiple locations across the Barcelona metropolitan area. The unit will be present at the following cities during the biennial:
- Sant Adrià de Besos | 12.09 – 15.09
- Sant Cugat | 17.09 – 22.09
- Terrassa | 24.09 – 29.09
- Sabadell | 01.10 – 06.10
- Granollers | 08.10 – 13.10
- Mataró | 15.10 – 20.10
- Santa Coloma | 22.10 – 27.10
- Badalona | 29.10 – 03.11
- L’Hospitalet | 05.11 – 10.11
- Cornellà | 12.11 – 17.11
- El Prat | 19.11 – 24.11
As MO.CA moves from one location to the next, it will serve as a versatile platform for cultural exchange and community interaction, aligning architecture with social engagement.
Further details on specific dates and activities will be released soon.
