The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) educational programmes led by Academic Director Areti Markopoulou have been awarded 2018 ACADIA’s Innovative Academic Programme Award of Excellence.

ACADIA is an international network of digital design researchers and professionals who facilitate critical investigations into the role of computation in architecture, planning, and building science, encouraging innovation in design creativity, sustainability, and education. Under the title of “RECALIBRATION: on imprecision and infidelity”,  this year’s annual ACADIA conference will be held at the Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City on October 18-20.

ACADIA Academic Award of Excellence

This award recognises an innovative academic programme that contributes to the education of students in the field of digital design. From the jury’s citation:

IAAC has been at the forefront of academic innovation pushing the agenda of Digital Architecture and Design towards exciting new territories. The work of Areti Markopoulou has enabled an environment that is committed to the student body and the city of Barcelona. IAAC has been able to define a new identity offering a unique perspective on issues of technology.

Speaking about the award, IAAC’s Academic Director Areti Markopoulou said:
