The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) will participate in MEXTRÓPOLI 2024, a festival centered on architecture and urbanism in Mexico City. As part of the event, IAAC’s founder, Vicente Guallart will present two films showcasing the institute’s work in advanced architectural practices.

MEXTRÓPOLI provides a space for reflection on urban challenges through conferences, exhibitions, workshops, and other activities. The 2024 edition, under the theme “Reparar la Ciudad”, (Repairing the City), focuses on addressing urban issues related to social, environmental, and material crises, emphasizing strategies for making cities more resilient.

IAAC will showcase two documentary features during MEXTRÓPOLI 2024 in Mexico City. Both films will be moderated by Vicente Guallart.

The first film, Valldaura: A Quarantine Cabin, highlights the self-sufficient architecture developed at Valldaura Labs. This project was designed to operate completely off-grid, using materials sourced from the surrounding environment in response to the challenges of the pandemic. The screening is scheduled for 15:00 hrs at La Laguna, Dr. Lucio 181.

The second film, Mass is More, explores advanced timber construction techniques aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of buildings. It illustrates how architecture can play a role in moving towards ecological construction practices. The film will be presented at 16:30 hrs, also at La Laguna, Dr. Lucio 181.
