IAAC presented Miralls del Demà at Llum Barcelona 2025

IAAC Barcelona

The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) illuminated LLUM BCN 2025 with the project MIRALLS DEL DEMÀ (Mirrors of Tomorrow), an interactive installation that transformed visitors’ voices into striking visual projections. From February 7th to 9th, Barcelona’s Parc Central del Poblenou became a canvas of light, as IAAC’s creation invited audiences to reflect on the future through the fusion of architecture, technology, and artificial intelligence.

At the core of MIRALLS DEL DEMÀ lay a fundamental question: Is climate change a natural challenge or a direct consequence of human action? Visitors stood before a monumental curved LED panel, where their words—captured by a strategically placed microphone—were processed by artificial intelligence and converted into stunning, dynamic projections. The result: a vivid and immersive representation of collective hopes and fears about the future.

Developed during the Interaction and Prototyping Seminar by second-year students of the Master in Advanced Architecture (MAA), Master in Robotics and Advanced Construction (MRAC), and the Master in Design for Emergent Futures, the installation was more than an artistic display—it was a call to action. Addressing urgent issues such as rising CO₂ emissions, plastic pollution, and rapid urbanization, the project used technology to provoke thought, inspire responsibility, and encourage participation in shaping a more sustainable future.

By integrating proximity sensors, sound, and AI-driven visuals, MIRALLS DEL DEMÀ demonstrated how architecture and innovation can engage communities in meaningful conversations about our planet’s future.
