The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is pleased to announce its participation in the upcoming 48h Open House Barcelona Architecture Festival, taking place on Saturday 21st of October.
This marks IAAC’s second year participation in this event. On this occasion, volunteers of the 48h Open House will offer guided tours from 10:00 to 19:00 hrs and will provide an exclusive opportunity for visitors to explore the most emblematic spaces of the Institute such as the Main Hall where most of the events, courses and workshops usually take place and the Fab Lab Barcelona.
The 48h Open House Barcelona provides a fresh perspective on the city’s architecture. Each year, the festival selects a unique theme, encouraging both residents and visitors to rediscover the architectural wonders of Barcelona from an innovative angle. The 14th edition of the festival aims to dig into the micro-narratives that can be extracted from the details of buildings. It will focus on the deconstruction of architecture to reveal the fragments of the rich and complex architectural collage of our city.
What will you visit on October 21st
IAAC is situated in the Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona, within the 22@ district, which has rapidly emerged as a hub for digital innovation, design, sustainability, and many other emerging industries. Its dynamic atmosphere and the concentration of talent and resources make it an exciting and stimulating place for those seeking professional and creative opportunities.
The Institute is housed in an old factory building, with 2,000 m2 of space for research, production and dissemination of architecture, so that space itself is a declaration of principles, embodying an experimental and productive approach to architecture. The IAAC premises include the Fab Lab Barcelona, an architecture and design-oriented fabrication laboratory which is part of the global network of Fab Labs.
About the 48h Open House Barcelona Festival
48h Open House Barcelona is an annual in-person festival which represents a unique opportunity to enjoy architectural experiences related to Barcelona’s history: from Roman ruins to contemporary architecture, going through Catalan Gothic, Neoclassic, Modernist and Modern Style buildings which are all included in the program.
The event aims to encourage locals to appreciate the value of good architecture and urbanism, offering more than 250 activities of different architecture styles, building forms and sizes to the public. The participation of many architects and volunteers explaining the city’s architecture, different creative participation activities which complement the event, and the fact that it is a completely free event, encourages citizens to improve architecture and public urban space knowledge.
