The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) has proudly collaborated with Ceràmica Cumella in the production of the ceramic tiles for the “Nutura. Re-Experiencing Nature” pavilion designed by Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT architects for Roca for the Fuorisalone 2023 within the framework of the Milano Design Week 2023. The pavilion can be visited from the 17th to 26th of April in the courtyard of the Università degli Studi di Milano as part of the Interni Design Re-Evolution exhibition event.

Nutura, the pavilion designed by Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT Architects for Roca, features organic shapes and neutral colors that reflect the beauty of land and sea. Inspired by the Mediterranean, the design incorporates a range of browns and blues that create a calming and serene atmosphere, allowing visitors to interact slowly with nature’s elements.

IAAC collaborated with Ceràmica Cumella to combine traditional craftsmanship with technology and create the ceramic tiles for the pavilion. The use of technology in Nutura is apparent in the application of an algorithm designed by IAAC: with the help of a robot, the algorithm was used to transform some allegorical drawings of Roca’s latest collection into milling on the ceramic tiles covering the floor of the pavilion. This innovative approach to design showcases the balance between tradition and modernity, resulting in a great display that pays homage to the beauty of nature.

The Nutura pavilion underscores the critical significance of fusing natural elements with both technology and traditional craftsmanship. Through its design and the hidden message on its tiles, the pavilion generates an immersive and multisensory experience that captivates visitors.
