Alejandro Haiek

Alejandro Haiek Coll is an architect and professor at Umeå School of Architecture, Sweden. Area of expertise: Civic infrastructures and social re-engineering. He received honors in the Master of Architectural Design in Sciences, at the Central University of Venezuela.

His research examines the relationships between public landscapes, ecologies and post-industrial networks and governance policy. His work explores social innovations that integrate science, culture and local intelligences. His projects are developed at the intersection between design, arts and engineering, focusing on technical hybrids, derived technologies and building components through human and material resources.

Haiek’s practice have been awarded globally obtaining the International Award for Public Art 2013 in Shanghai, 1st Prize at the International Festival of Architecture of Barcelona EME3 2012, 1st Prize for three categories at Quito XX Pan-American Biennale: Architectural Design, Urban Design and Recycling & Rehabilitation, 2016 and, commended at the Architectural Review Housing Awards 2017.
