In the MaCAD Postgraduate Building Information Modelling and Smart Construction Module, the students focus their study and research on Building Information Modelling (BIM), reviewing the most relevant paradigms in three different aspects of it: Integrative modelling, Collaborative workflows and Cloud-based data management in design.

Aimed at learning the most advanced tools to face architectural challenges, the MaCAD class attended the Digital tools for Integrative Modelling Seminar, led by the Faculty Óscar Herrero / Modelical, assisted by Andrés Antolín / Modelical.

This seminar was an introduction to Rhino.Inside Revit, but not as a typical software tutorial course, it aimed at showing the key elements to use Rhino.Inside Revit and what are the strengths of this software in the AEC environment.

With these sessions, students learnt how to face modelling and parameterization problems with new tools and techniques. Despite these are practical tools, the course had a theoretical approximation, trying to set the knowledge bases needed to use the software in a practical way.

The purpose of this course was to develop, using Rhinoceros, Grasshopper and Revit, the skills and knowledge of parametric modelling and interoperability between both softwares, applying it to the AEC environment:

  • Know and dominate Rhino.Inside
  • Understand interoperability concepts with Revit
  • Develop management criteria about parametric data and it application to existing elements in Revit
  • Master the ability to integrate data and geometry from several environments, like Revit and Rhinoceros

During the Integrative Modelling Seminar, Oscar, Andrea and the more then 30 MaCAD students presented their final projects during a closing Virtual Pinup session in front of a global Jury panel of experts made by Roberto Molinos Esparza / Modelical, Nora Bukovits and Andrés Velasco Muro / PAZ Academy, to review and comment their works.
