IAAC and the rest of partners within the CiD project have been busy the last 8 months exchanging knowledge between members to develop innovative educational programmes focusing on circular design. The developed curricula will start to be tested in the academic year 2024/2025 and will also be made public to encourage replicability. Three knowledge exchange workshops took place across Europe in Hannover, Barcelona and Genoa, each workshop having a specific focus outlined below. See some of our highlights from the workshop below.

CiD consortium visiting Valldaura Labs

Knowledge Exchange Workshop Hannover

Leibniz University Hannover were the first hosts of the CID knowledge exchange workshops that focused on the consortium members sharing their expertise, educational methodologies and existing resources. The days were very dense and packed with information, but allowed the consortium to better get to know each other and understand what each one could bring to the project.

Key Highlights and Takeaways:

  • Exchanging resources and methodologies that have previously been successful or learnings from previous implementation,
  • Visiting the Hannover Christmas Market with the consortium for team building,
  • Skill It Event with students and young professionals to better understand what this think is missing from current education in the field of urban design and architecture.

Knowledge Exchange Workshop Barcelona

The Barcelona workshop built on the exchanges that took place in Hannover to focus on the development of the educational programmes – academic, accelerator, continuous education – curricula. The goal of the workshop was to leave Barcelona with a clear structure and content for the curricula development which were written following the workshop.

Key Highlights and Takeaways:

  • Clearer understanding of the educational programme needs and requirements,
  • Visit to the Valldaura Labs to visit the Circular Prototypes of MAEBB and 3DPA,
  • Calcotada at Green Leka, where the partners got to experience slow food and local delicacy, Calcots,
  • Mind the Gap Event, where former IAAC MAA students presented entrepreneurial programmes they have participated in and engaged in discussions,
  • Contribution of the different expertises for the educational programmes, were assessed and mapped out and discussed.

Knowledge Exchange Workshop Genova

Genoa’s workshop focused on the development of the course guidelines, an instruction manual on how to implement the curricula. The workshop was full of hands-on activities and discussions that would then translate into the development of the course guidelines.

Key Highlights and Takeaways:

  • EUSEW – Towards climate neutral cities: Energy TexTi(l)e, a public event hosted in the Blue District where our project coordinate Jorg Schroeder presented CiD,
  • Identifying personas  as part of a workshop to better understand the participants of our educational programmes,
  • Discussing and elaborating the course guidelines, understanding which elements are transversal and which ones are specific to each programme.
