The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is proud to invite all its Alumni to join the 4th Global Alumni Meeting, which will take place on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th of April 2023 in Barcelona. 

In the last 20 years, IAAC has opened its doors to over 2,000 students from more than 70 countries. Some of the most notable among them, will return this April to Barcelona to present their latest works and discuss the future of architecture.

Professional and research-based works, which span from ecological, biological and robotic design, to urban micro-mobility investigations and social inclusion policy, will be presented in a PechaKucha format, that will showcase the latest works of six selected Alumni.

IAAC is extremely excited to announce the partnership with the MODEL Festival, who will include the Alumni Talks within the collateral events of its 2023 programme (+MODEL). IAAC Alumni have also been involved in other main activities of the festival, which will be soon announced in the official press conference.

The evening Open Lecture will be given by Marziah Zad, Master in Advanced Architecture Alumna, co-founder of the practice Ashrafi & Zad Design and currently part of the design faculty at the University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Environments in Oregon, and San Jose State University’s College of Design in California, USA.

IAAC Head of Studies Mathilde Marengo will present this year a new edition of the Alumni Talks session. As part of the 4th IAAC Global Alumni Meeting and the Barcelona Architecture Festival, six outstanding Alumni have been invited as guest speakers to present their recent work, which span from ecological, biological and robotic design, to urban micro-mobility investigations and social inclusion policy.

Friday, 28th of April from 19:30 to 21:30 – Alumni Keynote Lecture: Marziah Zad 

IAAC Main Hall (Pujades 102) & Online, Activity open to IAAC Alumni and General Public

Marziah Zad is continuously cultivating an architectural design approach that is positioned at the intersection of investigative, computational design and a celebration of existing narratives related to place and identity. Zad developed professional experience in Lebanon, Spain, Iran, and West Coast USA before cofounding Ashrafi & Zad Design in 2019. Working from the intimate scale to the territorial, the practice has been awarded multiple distinctions for designed and completed projects.

Zad is part of the design faculty at the University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Environments in Oregon, and San Jose State University’s College of Design in California, USA. Learn more about the Lecture here.

Saturday, 29th of April from 14:00 to 17:30 – Alumni Networking Lunch

Location Valldaura Labs, Activity for IAAC Alumni only

The 4th IAAC Global Alumni Meeting will end with a networking paella lunch in the beautiful set of the Collserola Natural Park. Buses to Valldaura will be leaving from IAAC at 13:30 and be back at 17:30.
