This week IAAC is welcoming the first group of students from the 2022-23 Academic Year, coming to Barcelona from all over the world to take part in the Educational Programmes‘ pre-course.

After a first round of visits of the IAAC facilities located in the heart of the 22@ district, the students attended a presentation lead by Mathilde Marengo, IAAC Head of Studies, and got told the Research agenda and the Values of the Institute. Among these we can find being Social, Open, Global, Radical, Informational, Natural, Holistic, Equal and Connected among others.

The classes will start with an introduction to Research Environment & Approach, where students will understand how effective research and communication will be a key part of their success in the academia and in the professional world.

During the week they will develop their skills in Programming and explore the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) to visualize, question, analyze, and interpret data to understand relationships, patterns, and trends. Students will also have the possibility to assist to an introductory course to Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper.

Moreover some of the students will have the possibility to focus on digital manufacturing for architecture, with a series of short exercises allowing them to get quickly comfortable with the machines available in the Fab Lab Barcelona such as Laser Cutting, CNC Milling and 3D printing.
