Leka Open Source Restaurant furniture was exhibited at Architect@Work event, which took place in Barcelona last 14-15 February. At the Future Woods Earth & Mars expo, organised by MaterFAD as part of the Architect@Work construction fair at CCIB, visitors were able to see the ceiling systems and various pieces of wooden furniture currently placed at Leka Open Source Restaurant and manufactured through digital fabrication tools.

Leka Restaurant, located in Barcelona’s Poblenou district, is conceived as an open source platform where all the knowledge is shared to everyone and gives it a unique characte. The project was developed by FabLab Barcelona architects and Master in Design for Emergent Future (MDEF) Faculty Miguel Guerrero and Anastasia Pistofidou.

Future Woods. Earth& Mars’ exhibition presented what wood will be like in the future on Earth and how it would exist on Mars for architectural and interior environments. Materfad showed at Architect@Work the main trends in wood, renewing its interest in innovation, sustainability and design.

At a time when the practice of design and architecture demands greater environmental awareness and consolidates terms such as sustainability and circular design, organic material such as wood is gaining renewed interest since it is the only building material that really does not add carbon emissions to the atmosphere.
