ORGANIZATION

Fab Lab Barcelona, part of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), is one of the leading laboratories of the worldwide network of Fab Labs, a small-scale production and innovation laboratory, equipped with digital fabrication tools.

Fab Lab Barcelona develops several educational and research programs related to the applications and implications of digital fabrication. It develops projects in different scales, from smart devices for data collection by individuals (Smart Citizen), the new generation of Fab Labs (Green Fab Lab), to new production models for cities (Fab City Project).

We’re looking for a Lab Assistant that will be supporting digital fabrication tasks in Fab Lab Barcelona, supervising the daily operations of students and faculty, organizing the space and collaborating in external projects. We are looking for a enthusiastic, self sufficient, organized and creative person to assist our FabLab, sharing our values and beliefs.

 

ABOUT THE JOB

The candidate will be responsible for assisting the Fab Manager and offering support to students and users in daily activities.

Main tasks:

  • Helping students and staff to use tools and machine.
  • Technical support on students & research projects.
  • Monitoring safety and appropriate machine use.
  • Teaching assistant in Digital Fabrication.
  • Management of booking system for students organisation.
  • Basic setup, maintenance & upgrade of the lab and its machines.
  • Participation in projects development of applied research, Industrial applications, product design and knowledge transfer.

Minimum required Skills:

  • Expertise in Parametric Design and Digital Fabrication tools ( Rhinoceros 3D, Grasshopper 3D, Solidworks, Coding, Electronics, Arduino, Laser Cutter, Milling Machine, 3D printers, etc.);
  • Previous experience in managing students & interacting with a team;
  • Craftsmanship knowledge;
  • Autonomous, able to take on responsibilities and coordinate a team efficiently;
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills;
  • Willing to learn, motivated, enthusiastic.

 

Language: English (+ Spanish appreciated).

Working Hours: 40h per week, Monday to Friday

Contract type: Full time

Position Commencement: October 1º, 2018

Salary: 18.000€ a year

Spanish working permit is mandatory
