Creating with CNC machining

Explore projects made during the CNC week of Fab Academy

  • Apr 26, 2024

Fab Academy is a fast-paced educational program that focuses on personal fabrication. Students master rapid prototyping by learning how to work with a new machine/concept each week, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments.

CNC machining

One of Fab Academy’s weeks is dedicated to learning CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining – a substractive manufacturing technology: parts are created by removing material from a solid block (called the blank or the workpiece) using a variety of cutting tools.

Students begin this week with a theoretical introduction to the process after which they begin learning how to use and operate the CNC milling machine, mainly used to produce big parts. After they have received all the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge, they go ahead and start working on a project of their own. In this blogpost, we have selected some of the CNC projects done by Fab Academy students in Barcelona that show how in just a week it is possible to master a new skill from scratch.
