Irene Meta
Big data researcher

Irene Meta has a Master in Architecture from the Polytechnic School of Genoa (Italy). Graduated with honour in 2016, her final dissertation explores integrated urban-rural development proposals for the agriculture park of Baix Llobregat, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. She is a member of the Association of Architects. During her academic career, she studied for one year in ETSAG (Granada) and she worked in three bureaus of architecture. She later receives a mobility grant to focus on Big Data and Smart City technologies for mobility applications at BSC (Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación).

Irene is now part of the IAAC-Valldaura Labs Group and PhD candidate at BSC and UIC (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya). Her doctoral research focuses on the crucial role of big data in urban planning and management and on their potential use for decision-making process and exploratory purpose. In Valldaura Labs, she is in charge of the development of the research project on Urban Simulation Models and she is accountable for the cooperation between IAAC and BSC in developing a strategy to define a city universal simulator and developing simulations of urban/territorial scenarios from big quantitative of data.
